Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly asked questions and answers on Amazon FBA.

Do I need an LLC to start selling on Amazon?

Technically, you don't need anything. You can start selling immediately just as an individual without any kind of business entity. If you have the capital, we do suggest starting with a business entity of some sort (sole proprietorship, LLC, s-corp, etc.) as it will help you scale your business faster by opening wholesale accounts to get ungated in brands, getting business lines of credit, and getting tax exemption when buying items to resell. In addition, having an LLC provides protection for your personal assets in case of any legal issues.

How long does it take to get approved for the Amazon seller account?

There's no definite answer and it really depends on the time of year/what rep gets your application. As long as you submitted everything correctly, you should be approved within a week (two at worst). Amazon isn't always great with sending out acceptance e-mails, so you might be approved before they officially tell you. You can check by trying to log into your account daily.

What is "gating" and how do I get ungated in brands?

Gating refers to whether or not you are approved to sell a category/brand on Amazon."Gated" means you aren't approved to sell.
"Ungated" means you are approved to sell.
Generally, you get ungated in brands by opening accounts with wholesalers, buying 10 of an item, and then submitting the invoice for approval through Seller Central. In some certain cases, you will be automatically ungated for a brand just by applying for it. This can happen because you hit certain sales thresholds or because Amazon has changed the restrictions on a certain brand. In some rare cases, retailers can be used to get ungated because they provide official invoices. Most retailers just give you receipts, WHICH WILL NOT WORK FOR UNGATING.
